Set in the heart of one of the most picturesque Cotswold villages, The Slaughters Country Inn offers the authentic charm of a traditional village inn; exceptional food made with the best local produce, a fine selection of local ales, roaring log fires to warm the winter months and a stunning terrace for when the sun shines. The Slaughters Country Inn is the perfect location for a country break where wellies, walks and unwinding are the order of the day.
The Slaughters Country Inn is located on an area formerly known as Washbourne’s Place which took its name from the family who owned it in 1470. The building was originally divided into three farm-workers cottages with a stable block. In the early 1920’s the cottages were converted into a large private house before it became an Eton cramming school. The boy’s assembly and dining room was located in what is now the Inn’s bar area and Westbury, one of the Superior bedrooms, used to be the location of the Headmaster’s office. The barn building was a recreation area, with the upper floor covered by a large model railway.
After it’s school days Washbourne’s Place reverted once again to private ownership and in 1988, the house opened as a hotel, known as Washbourne Court. In 2011 the Brownsword family bought the hotel and reinvented the property as a traditional country inn, renaming it The Slaughters Country Inn.
Set on the banks of the River Eye, which runs through the heart of the village of Lower Slaughter, The Slaughters Country Inn is surrounded by beautiful lawns which wrap themselves around the building and follow the line of the river bank.
In the summer the sun-drenched terrace plays hosts to family fun days and barbeques, and throughout the warmer months it is an exquisite backdrop to lunch, dinner or afternoon tea.
